SUMMARY

OVERVIEW

- The Inventory Accountant is responsible for accurate valuation, control and reporting of all inventories for a large-scale gold mine in Tanzania.

- The role supports effective cost control, production reporting and compliance with company policies, IFRS and Tanzanian regulations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

- Inventory Accounting & Valuation

- Maintain accurate inventory records in the ERP system for all warehouses and stock locations.

- Ensure appropriate valuation methods are applied (e.g. weighted average cost, standard cost) in line with company policy and IFRS.

- Calculate and post monthly inventory adjustments, including stock movements, cost allocations, shrinkage and write downs.

- Prepare monthly inventory valuation reports and reconcile inventory sub-ledgers to the general ledger.

- Account for ore stockpiles, work in process and finished gold in process inventories in line with IAS 2 and relevant mining industry practices.

- Reconciliation & Month End Close

- Perform detailed reconciliations between physical stock, inventory module, and GL balances.

- Investigate and resolve differences related to receipts, issues, transfers, returns and unit cost discrepancies.

- Coordinate cut off procedures at month end to ensure accurate capture of goods in transit, GRNs and un invoiced receipts.

- Prepare inventory-related journals (reclassifications, provisions, adjustments) and supporting documentation.

- Provide inventory schedules and commentary as part of monthly management reporting.

- Cost Control & Usage Analysis

- Analyse inventory usage by department, cost centre and project; highlight abnormal consumption or trends.

- Work with Supply Chain, Maintenance, Mining and Processing teams to understand key cost drivers.

- Support standard cost and bill-of-materials reviews for critical items and consumables.

- Assist in setting and reviewing consumption norms (e.g., fuel burn rates, tyre life, reagent usage) and monitoring actuals against standards.

- Provide inventory and consumption data to support budgeting, forecasting and cost reduction initiatives.

- Stocktakes, Cycle Counts & Internal Control

- Coordinate and participate in periodic stocktakes and cycle counts for all warehouses and critical inventory categories.

- Develop and maintain stocktake procedures, count instructions and variance investigation guidelines.

- Review and approve stock adjustments arising from counts, ensuring adequate explanations and authorisations.

- Assess and strengthen internal controls over inventory receiving, storage, issuing, returns and write offs.

- Ensure appropriate segregation of duties between warehouse, supply chain and finance functions.

- Inventory Provisioning & Obsolescence

- Monitor slow-moving, obsolete and excess stock; prepare ageing and turnover analyses.

- Recommend and calculate provisions for obsolete, damaged or non-moving inventory in line with company policy and IFRS.

- Work with user departments and supply chain to manage write offs, disposals and stock rationalisation programs.

- Systems, Processes & Data Integrity

- Maintain the integrity of inventory master data (item codes, descriptions, units of measure, costing parameters).

- Support implementation and optimisation of ERP inventory and warehouse management modules.
