PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:
The purpose of the role is to implement daily exploration work programs through the collection, plotting, and interpretation of geological data from assigned exploration projects. The role holder will carry out surface geological mapping, open pit and underground face mapping, drilling, logging, sampling, and preparation of sample sheets for submission to the laboratory. In addition, the role holder will supervise direct reportees, providing daily and weekly feedback on work progress and results.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology or a related Geoscience field from a recognized institution.
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of 1 year as a Graduate Geologist 1 or Intern in a medium- to large-scale mining industry.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Proficiency in geological mapping.
- Competence in computer-aided software such as GIS, Datamine, or Leapfrog.

MAIN OR KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Ensure HSE compliance during geological works, overseeing implementation of work procedures, resource and PPE availability, and smooth execution of pre-start toolbox talks and safety meetings.
- Conduct geological mapping and sampling exercises as directed by the geologist in charge, adhering to standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Implement exploration drilling programs as directed and ensure compliance with established work practices.
- Reconcile sample recoveries and qualities, ensuring drill cores are well oriented before commencing the marking exercise.
- Monitor and reconcile downhole surveys, immediately reporting any deviations from the plan for timely decision-making.
- Ensure drill rigs are aligned according to the drilling parameters outlined in the drill plan.
- Ensure RC samples are collected and labelled correctly on site, identifying and rectifying any errors during sampling in accordance with QAQC protocols.
- Ensure all samples are collected from drill sites and delivered to the exploration core yard for further processing and submission to the laboratory.
- Monitor the work of drilling supervisors, ensuring all sampling consumables are available on drill rigs, accurately labelled, and that sample bags and sheets comply with QAQC sampling protocols.
- Supervise housekeeping at work sites, maintaining good work practices in accordance with SOP requirements and guidelines.
- Maintain strong supervision and professional relationships with drilling contractors.
